Clavering Boys help Wendens Ambo Mini Rugby Win the Under 7s Cambridgeshire County Cup
On the 23rd of March four boys from Year 2 went with two Under 7s Wendens Ambo Mini Rugby to Cambridge to take part in the Cambridgeshire County Cup.
Sam Prentice was part of the Knaves team that took on Cambridge, Huntingdon and Royston. Their three pool games were all tight affairs with never more than a single try between the aggregate scores. They just failed to progress from the pool stage after beating Cambridge a narrow loss to Huntingdon and a draw with pool winners Royston.
Ned Caton, , Tom Dyster and William Crabb were part of the 10 man Knights squad who were in the toughest Pool in the competition. They secured comfortable victories against St Ives and Royston, before the pool decider against a very strong Newmarket squad who were undefeated all season. They produced an outstanding display. Some robust tagging by William Crabb and Tom Dyster made life difficult for the opposition, and some excellent finishing from and Ned Caton helped complete an aggregate win by two tries and progression to the semi-finals.
A 6 try victory in the semi-finals against Shelford meant a decider against Ely in the Final. Both Wendens teams were outstanding, and Ely simply couldn’t compete with the intense well organised defence, good ball handling skills and excellent support play and the Knights ran away with it to secure a 17-4 win.
This is a fantastic result for the boys and demonstrates the strength in depth that we have not only those who represented the club at the weekend but all the 30 boys and girls who train every week with Wendens Ambo Under 7s.
