Book Week – A visit from the poet Paul Cookson
On Tuesday the whole school was treated to a fabulous day of poetry led by visiting poet, Paul Cookson. None of the children could resist joining in with the catchy rhythms and repeating lines in his amusing poems. Paul is also (in his own words) an average ukulele player and it was great to watch and listen to the children as they sang along to his playing (which was far from average!) with enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment. Later in the day Paul worked with each class to help inspire them to write some poetry of their own and everyone was inspired to ‘have a go’ for themselves. All the children thought it was a fun way to learn and many of them have lots of new ideas ready to include in their work!
Many thanks to all who have supported our Book Week. The Book Fair raised the fabulous amount of £265.00 commission which we can spend on new books for the school. The children have really enjoyed listening to stories – special thanks to all the parents and friends who have given up their time to share their favourite books in class. Thanks also to all the parents who have helped create the fabulous costumes the children are wearing today – they look fantastic! We hope that all the activities will help increase the love of books!
