HEADTEACHER NEWSLETTER ISSUE 2 27.9.17
We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Liz Carter, one of our parents who is a professional photographer, for the excellent photographs she took of the school during the last academic year. As a result we have been able to update the pictures on our website.

Friendship Week
The staff and children have enjoyed a very successful friendship week with a range of off-time-table activities running each day. Children have worked in house groups to consider eco issues and possibilities for a future team of eco warrior in school; to create new superhero characters to represent our 5 key learning behaviours; to play games and solve problems; to consider aspects of manners and respect for one another and to “parachute!”
Sports Ambassadors Day
On Thursday 21st September, Georgie and Tom in Year 6 went to Henham School for the Sports Ambassador event. The role of sports ambassadors is to represent the school in all sporting events. First we were separated into groups and we learnt how to keep track of scores for round robin and knock-out tournaments. Then we had to write down and discuss ideas about what makes a good sports ambassador. At the end of the day we watched a video that the Henham sports ambassadors from last year made.

MacMillan Coffee Morning
Once again our MacMillan coffee morning was very well attended and much enjoyed by all. We raised over £400. Thank you to everyone who supported us with both cake donation and for attending with their children.
Girls Football
The girls in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 all enjoyed an outing to Carver Barracks on Wednesday. The activities were organised by the Schools Partnership to inspire them to take part in sports. They practised their football skills and had great fun with a mini tournament.
Football Match – Clavering v Ricking & Farnham
On Thursday 28th of September, Clavering played a football match against Rickling & Farnham school. Rickling & Farnham started very well and were soon 2-0 up but soon Clavering caught up to 2 all with goals from Gianluca and Sam. Then Edward scored a very well worked goal to make us 3-2 up at half time. In the second half, their star player scored a hat-trick to make the final score 5-3. This is the first year we had a mixed team of 4 girls and 6 boys. Everyone played really well and it was a very hard fought game.

Class Walk – Class 5
On Tuesday 19th September Class 5 went on a class walk around Clavering. We went past Parsonage Farm, Deers Green and the two unused windmills. Altogether we walked 6.4 miles. Luckily, the weather was fantastic. We walked over lots of fields and we got very muddy. We started our walk at 9.25 and finished at 12.00, just in time for lunch. We had a great time on our class walk.

Vital E-safety Training for Parents, Pupils and Staff
On Monday 9th October there will be e-safety awareness training for years 5 and 6 pupils during the afternoon and staff training for all class teachers after school.
There will also be an opportunity for parents to attend in the evening.
This is vital training led by some excellent specialists. Other local schools will also be attending. Please see below for details for the parent event.
I cannot stress enough the importance of attending this event, especially for Key Stage Two parents (years 3 ‑ 6).
I attend the headteacher session each year and every time there is something new to learn. Our children are highly vulnerable online and we need to work together to support them in staying safe.

Friends of Clavering AGM
The Friends of Clavering Annual General Meeting took place last week to review the year and organise events for the next. The Friends raised around £11,300 for the school last year which is an amazing achievement and an excellent source of funding for the school. Much of this went towards Computing and Mathematics resources for the pupils. Other funding has supported The Wider Opportunities provision.
On behalf of the school I would like to thank the Friends of Clavering and the parents that have contributed to this amount. Without this extra funding, alongside the cuts that are being made to school funding, we would not be able to maintain the high standards of education in the form that we currently provide.
A special thank you to Rachel Betts, the Chair of Friends.
PE Clothing – a reminder
In compliance with health and safety regulations, earrings (including studs) must not be worn for any sport. Please make sure that children who wear earrings know how to remove them and have somewhere safe and clean to keep them during PE lessons. Thank you.
