Welcome
We would like to welcome Rachel Betts as a new parent governor. We are looking forward to working with her in this role.
Open Morning
Last week we had a very successful Open Morning for new prospective parents. The children were a credit to the school describing and sharing their learning with the visitors, from class-based Meet and Greet to the year 6 children mixing with the visitors in the hall during refreshments.
Thank you to the Friends of Clavering for providing and organising the refreshments, especially Mrs Bawden and Mr Murray.
Parent Forum meeting
Last week we had a Parent Forum meeting. We have started plans for a Professional Week that will take place next term and we also discussed outcomes from the parent questionnaires with next steps.
Children in Need
For this year’s Children in Need on Friday 15th November we had a wear your PJ’s to school day! All the children and staff came to school dressed in their favourite PJ’s. Thank you all for your support. We raised £320 – well done everyone!
Ms Loram visits Year 5 and 6
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a very interesting visit from Ms Loram (Rose C’s mum) last week. She talked to the children about her work as a barrister and a judge. The children were very interested, with Year 6 able to make many observations about the differences between Crown Court and the Magistrate’s Court following their visit from Mrs Terri earlier this year. Both classes had many questions to put to Ms Loram and there was a great deal of lively discussion.
Thank you Ms Loram for giving her time for this, we always appreciate visitors to share their experiences in a range of professions. It is a very valuable opportunity for the children to expand their knowledge and understanding of the world.
Choir
The school choir has been working hard with Mrs Griffiths and the children in the Thaxted School choir to make a combined choir for the Spirit of Christmas concert at St Mary’s Church in Saffron Walden on 7th December. The combined choir make a lovely sound and will be singing two contrasting solo pieces and then a number of other wonderful Christmas songs with the other schools and Saffron Walden Choral Society. Well done children for working so hard to learn your words. The concert is going to be magical!
Tickets are available at a discounted price from the school office!
Year 6 Basketball
On Monday a team of ten Year 6 children took part in the Uttlesford Basketball tournament at Lord Butler Leisure Centre in Saffron Walden. This was our first time participating in this event and the children did very well, improving through each game. They worked together very well as a team supporting one another, with Olivia and Fred both scoring in matches. Well done to all.
Year 4 Sports Hall Athletics
On Wednesday 27th November Class 4 went to JFAN for Sports Hall Athletics. We had to compete against teams from 6 schools in our area. The children tried really hard in every event and we won the tournament by over 40 points. Well done Class 4! Thank you Mrs Lawless and Mrs Crabb for your help.
