Reception explore Chinese New Year – January 2020

We really enjoyed learning about the traditions at Chinese New Year. We listened to the story of the Great Race and used ordinal numbers to put the animals in order. We watched clips of a family preparing for and celebrating Chinese New Year. We learned a poem and added our own actions.
In Maths, we also tried to learn how to say the numbers to twelve in Mandarin, one of the languages of China – we even had a go at writing the symbols for the numbers.
We had a wonderful cultural snack time where we tried to use chopsticks to eat our noodles and prawn crackers.
We enjoyed listening to the relaxing sound of the Chinese bamboo flute.
In Literacy, we learned to write captions for our pictures of the Great Race story.
