Reception Class as Scientists

Jasmine Flowering Tea
Reception have been enjoying thinking like a scientist this week. Phoebe brought in two jasmine tea bulbs. They were tightly packed like a ball of wool. The instructions were to add hot water and watch them grow. So, we discussed keeping safe around hot water. Then we made predictions about what would happen. We added the hot water and were really fascinated to watch the leaves gradually unfolding. The children thought it looked like a spider stretching! Then the water started changing colour. After a little while, we could smell the lovely jasmine fragrance. The next day the class couldn’t believe how dark the water had become. We discussed how strong tea needs the leaves to be left in the water much longer! Thank you to the Richards family for sending the tea in.
