Diwali
People, Culture and Communities 1st – 5th November 2021
This week in Reception we have been learning about the festival of Diwali. The children enjoyed hearing the story of Rama and Sita and watching short clips about a Hindu family preparing for and celebrating Diwali. This has been a fantastic way to start our topic on light and dark. We have made our own diwa lamps out of clay and are looking forward to painting and decorating them. We also explored pattern and created our own rangoli collage. For snack we enjoyed some tasty naan bread too! The children heard a number of books starting with one called Little Glow about how light is used throughout the year to celebrate festivals. Reception are beginning to make links with Diwali and other festivals such as Christmas; noting the candles, exchanging gifts, eating special food and wearing special clothes. Happy Diwali!
