Staffing
We will be sad to say goodbye to a few members of staff at the end of this term.
Mrs Camp, who is exploring a new venture after being at the school, as a class teacher, for the last 9 years. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and support over the years and wish her well in her new role.
Mrs Gates, who joined us two years ago and has been a class teacher this year, wants to spend more time with her family. We would like to thank her for all the support she has given to the school.
Mrs Pellew, who has been a learning support assistant for the last two years is relocating with her family. We wish them all well and would like to thank her for all her hard work.
Mrs Bond is leaving her role as a Learning Support Assistant to become a trainee teacher, which we are all excited about. Her main placement will be at Clavering Primary School.
We would like to welcome new staff members to the school:
Mrs Yildiz, an experienced teacher, who is currently teaching reception in another school. We are looking forward to working with her.
Ms Nash, Mrs Hemsley, Mrs Archer and Mrs H Snelling will be joining the team as Learning Support Assistants. We are looking forward to working with them.
Reception Induction Morning
This week we welcomed our new Reception parents to the school with our Induction Morning. Mrs Course, Mrs Berrett, Mrs Snelling, Mrs Coy, Ms Gawthorpe, Mrs Elliston, Mr Gooding all spoke, along with myself, to the parents, sharing key information about our school.
Crucial Crew for year 6
Year 6 had an important and valuable trip to Bridge End Gardens last Thursday. This was a visit for life skills and important lessons for being at Secondary School. They worked in groups and visited different scenarios that challenged them and really made them think. Some of the sessions were run by Essex police and the Fire Service and some other youth charities. The children thought about healthy relationships, peer pressure, water safety, antisocial behaviour, vaping and shop lifting. It was a very informative and interactive morning and the children were very engaged. Well done Year 6.
Year 6 Residential
The year 6 residential to Kingswood in West Runton, Norfolk was absolutely fantastic! The children had an amazing time taking part in a variety of activities, including: wall climbing, zip line, caving, problem solving, a trip to the beach and so much more. The children enjoyed being in dorm rooms and staying up late but were not that keen on getting up early for breakfast! The staff at Kingswood were brilliant and we were very well looked after the whole time we were there.
Year 5 listen to the international key speaker, Chris Lubbe
Year 5 joined lots of other local schools to listen to Chris Lubbe speak about his time living in South Africa during the apartheid era. He spoke about working for Nelson Mandela and how he continues to spread his message of peace and acceptance by meeting with schools all across the world. There were lots of insightful questions from all schools during the Q&A session and we discussed how this linked with our recent work on the Windrush Generation.
Application for leave of absence for term time holidays
Guidance from the Local Authority:
“Leave of absence may only be granted by a person authorised in that behalf by the proprietor of the school. As from 1st September 2013, the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 amended Regulation 7 to prohibit the proprietor of a maintained school from granting leave of absence to a pupil, except where an advance application has been made by the parent with whom the pupil normally resides, and the proprietor considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
Taking your child out of school during term time could be detrimental to your child’s educational progress. There is no entitlement to parents to take their child out of school during term time, however, you may apply to the school for leave of absence if you believe there are exceptional circumstances.
If the absence is not authorised and the holiday is taken, the case will be referred to the Education Welfare Service who may issue a Penalty Notice for £120 (or £60 if paid within 21 days) to each parent for each child taken out of school.”
Please note occasional days for birthdays and treats cannot be authorised and cheaper prices cannot be considered as a valid reason. No leave of absence will be granted during our assessment weeks or the first week of the Autumn term. Medical appointments, if at all possible, should be made outside school hours. Siblings of children attending medical appointments should remain in school.
