Headteacher Newsletter Issue 16
FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER ISSUE 16: 19.7.24
This is the final letter of the term and once again I would like to thank all members of the school community for their support and hard work, which has resulted in another successful year for Clavering Primary School.
The Year 6 are to be congratulated on their SATs results (details below). After reading all the reports, it would appear that all the children have progressed well across the school and have enjoyed their learning. We are very proud of them all.
We wish Year 6 well as they leave to attend their secondary schools in September. We wish them all every success for the future. A special thank you to our Heads of School and Sport Ambassadors. They have been an asset to the school.
Message from the Chair of Governors
As we come to the end of another academic year at Clavering Primary School we should all celebrate what an exciting and productive year it has been and I would personally like to thank the staff at the school who have made all this happen. However, we must of course thank the parents, families for their incredible support but most of all the children for all their hard work.
As one year closes, we have to look forward to another that will start in September and as the year 6 children engage in new adventures moving on to secondary schools, other children move up to new year groups with the increasing challenges that brings and of course we will welcome new reception children who will be starting their career in education.
Great expectations! In the meantime, on behalf of the Governors, I wish you all a super summer break.
Ray Gooding
Chair of Governors

Summer Reading Challenge
Marvellous Makers
Stephanie Pemberton from the Saffron Walden Library visited Clavering to promote this summer’s Reading Challenge. It all sounds very exciting and it would be lovely if the children could get involved.
Children across Essex are being challenged to read six books to help a group of characters solve the mystery of where the items in their creative toolbox have disappeared to – can they be found in time for their big festival.
If they complete the challenge they will receive a certificate and a medal – Good luck everyone!
The challenge runs from Saturday 20th July to Saturday 7th September
You can find out more about this activity on the following website: libraries.essex.gov.uk
Sports Ambassador event
Last week, the Year 6 Sports Ambassadors and some of the children from Class 2 attended a sports morning at Joyce Frankland with Sports Ambassadors and year 2 children from other local schools. The Sports Ambassadors were tasked with creating activities for the younger children before teaching them to them later in the morning. The children had a lovely morning creating and taking part in the activities.
Summer Fete
Thank you to Anna, Jenny and their Friends of Clavering team for an excellent Summer Fete last Friday. Everyone seemed to have an enjoyable time working around all the stalls and activities. We are in the process of calculating how much we have raised. A big thank you to Anna for all her hard work as Chair. Anna will be stepping down from this role at the end of this academic year and we are happy to announce Jenny will be taking over this role.
Reports
Your child’s annual school report was shared with you last week. This is in addition to the new Interim Report that was circulated earlier in the year. I hope you find them useful and an informative summary of your child’s progress during the current academic year, as well as information as to how they are performing against the national expectations.
2024 KS2 SATs Results
We would like to congratulate Year 6 for their SATs results and our combined score for Reading, Writing and Maths is above National Expectations.
For the children that took the tests we have exceeded national expectations for another year. We are particularly pleased with our Reading which was 86% (National 74%) with a Greater Depth score of 40%. Greater Depth is a much higher level than the National Expected level.
We are also pleased with our Writing and Science assessments which were 89%.
Questionnaires
Thank you all for responding to the parent questionnaire. We will analyse the responses and share the findings with you next term. Actions will also inform our School Improvement Plan.
Dinner money
From September we will be increasing the cost of the school dinners from £2.85 to £3.10 per day. We appreciate the challenge of managing household budgets and have kept the increase to the lowest possible rate, but due to the rising costs around us we are finding it difficult to balance our catering budget. If we don’t increase the daily amount, we will not be able to provide the depth and quality of our wonderful menu.
Dinner money reminder – Please ensure you have settled your accounts up to the end of the summer term, in particular those parents of children in Year 6. Thank you.
FOC Second Hand Uniform Sale
The Friends of Clavering will be holding a second hand uniform sale on Friday 6th September at the front of the school.

Healthy and Safety notice regarding the wearing of earrings during PE
Just as a reminder, The Primary Code states that all jewellery is to be removed for PE lessons and taping over earrings is not allowed. This means that if pupils cannot take their earrings out they will have to sit out of PE until a time that they can be removed. Schools have to comply with this guidance.
If your child is about to have their ears pierced it is advisable for it to take place over the summer so that the earrings can be removed for PE ready for the start of the Autumn term.
If you have any questions at any time, please feel free to make an appointment.
Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend and a great Summer holiday.
