A buzzing bee keeper visit for Reception class

What a fabulous morning! Jeff Miles, a local bee keeper visited the class to tell them all about his bees, hives and the importance of bees. We learned so much. Highlights were the worker bee dance (when they tell the other bees that there are lovely flowers), learning that honey is the only food in the world with enough nutrients to sustain life, five-thousand year old honey found in Egyptian tombs is still edible and a worker bee only lives for six weeks.
Jeff also show us the wax he had collected from his five hives and melted down – it smelled of honey! We were allowed to try two different types of honey – a set honey from rape seed plants and a runny honey from blackberry. It was yummy!
