Talent Show

I am so proud and to be honest, blown away, by how resilient and brave the children were last week that were prepared to share their talents to the rest of the school. Some talents had been perfected over time, and some had only just begun but all the children were happy to share. The rest of the school were incredibly supportive, and everyone had a wonderful time. Talents from a 4-year-old child whistling, to gymnastics, magic, singing, playing instruments and dancing. A huge thank you to George and our Heads of School as well as year 6 and Miss Morton for organising the resources.

Year 5 Cricket Final

We had an amazing time at the cricket finals at Saffron Walden Cricket Club on 17^th June. With Year 6 away on residential, our Year 5s took on lots of schools from across the area. Everyone played brilliantly, and it was great to see how much more confident we were compared with the previous round. With some great bowling, bold batting and plenty of team spirit, we held our own against some very experienced sides. We might not have made it to the grand finals this time, but the day was full of fun, progress and proud moments all round.

Reception Stay and Play and Pop In Session

We started our drop-in session after school on Fridays for the new Reception children and their parents. This was a lovely time for the children to begin to familiarise with the new classroom and for us to meet some new families.

We also welcomed 17 of the new class for a play session last Thursday. It was wonderful to meet them and start seeing their interests flourish.

Year 2 cricket final

We had a great time at the Uttlesford KS1 Cricket Final at Audley End House where our Year 2 team competed against the qualifying schools from the local area. All the children demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork dispute the high heat and should be very proud of themselves for coming 7^th in the Uttlesford district. A great morning was had by all!

Year 6 residential

Year 6 had an amazing time on their residential this week at Bawdsey Manor. The children absolutely loved the experience (some wanted to stay longer!) and tried lots of new things. We received many lovely comments from instructors about how brilliant our children were! Mrs Neal and Miss Morton witnessed many examples of teamwork, kindness, cheerleading and support – we were incredibly proud of all of them.

Beekeeper Visit

Reception class were really fortunate to have a local beekeeper visit to support their learning about minibeasts. Jeff Miles came for his third visit and he loves coming to Clavering.  Jeff told the class about his honey bees, the different types in the hive and how they make honey. The children loved doing the waggle dance to reinforce how bees communicate with each other.  They were fascinated by the key role of bees in pollination and how without bees we wouldn’t have much of the fruit and vegetable snack they bring in each day! Jeff brought 1000 bees with him and we even tried the delicious honey – thumbs up from the majority of the class.  Jeff donated a book about bees and gave them a little bee toy to keep. The class have been really inspired by the visit – Bertie recorded a bee pollinating flowers in his garden, Hattie has been drawing beautiful bee pictures and Zephy has been really creative at home with her bee toy. Well done bee fans!

We can highly recommend the honey – you can really taste the flowers in it!

Nordic braiding and our first fire at forest school

The Running Rabbits in Reception were able to have their first fire in the log circle due to their super rule keeping! Mrs Thomas organised the fire and the children enjoyed toasting and eating marshmallows! Yummy!

Mrs Eltis set up a braiding activity where the children swung coloured wool to a partner opposite and they created a bracelet! There was even ice in the mud kitchen but it didn’t stay solid for long!!! Mrs Course was treated to some delicious forest gazopacho – thank you Albert!

Cloverleaf Wraparound Club

We are thrilled to announce two fantastic additions to our Cloverleaf Wraparound after school. Allotments and Forest School every Monday and Wednesday. These sessions give children the chance to explore, grow, build and discover in the great outdoors. In the morning, the club offers a variety of breakfast choices, served between 7.30 and 8.00am, followed by quiet activities until 8.40am when the children are taken to their classes.  Please contact the school office if you would like to secure a place at Cloverleaf.

Drop off times and key messages for class teachers

If you would like a message to be given to your child’s class teacher, before school, then please catch the person on duty by the gate leading on to the playground. It is usually me.  These messages will be given to the class teacher before school.

Class teachers cannot meet with parents during this time as they are with the children in their classrooms.  Appointments or telephone calls can be made upon request at a mutually convenient time.

School Absences – sickness and holidays

Following Local Authority guidance, we will be contacting families on a daily basis, even if we have been told there is sickness.  Following the same guidance, if it is believed that the family are actually on holiday and not sick then this will need to be actioned as an unauthorised absence.  Fines may follow.

Free School Meals Funding

You can register for Free Schools Meals Funding if you meet the criteria below.

If you have a child in Key Stage One and are receiving the free meal, which is part of the universal offer, you could be missing out on this additional funding for the school, which will support your child with their learning, if you meet the criteria below.  You have to apply for this funding.    If you think you meet the criteria below then please follow the guidance below and contact the school office.
