Fun Run
The whole school (and thankfully the sunshine) turned out for the FOC fun run on 13th November. Once again this event was very much enjoyed by all children and staff. Year 6 particularly enjoyed the opportunity to support their buddies in Reception class who demonstrated great enthusiasm and stamina to collect many stamps on their cards as they completed stages of the run. Thank you to the Friends and staff for organising the afternoon, which raised just over £1,600.
Bikeability
Year 6 worked hard during the final week of last half term towards their level 2 bikeability awards. They encountered all seasons and weathers over the 4 days, as well as all manner of road works! All of the children were successful in achieving the award and are well equipped and experienced to ride safely on the roads. Many thanks once again to Mrs Wright and Mrs Palmer for their help in supporting us with this once again this year.
Year 2 Walk
Just before the holiday, Fox Class enjoyed a lovely, sunny, autumnal walk through the village as part of their geography topic, ‘Where we live’. The children identified human and physical features along the way and then ‘assessed’ the play equipment in the park in preparation for their DT work designing a play park. Thanks to parent helpers for giving up their time and to the children for behaving so well for the morning.
Halloween Disco
Just before half term the Halloween disco took place. Thank you Rachel Betts and her Friends of Clavering team for organising it and especially to Rachel for being an amazing DJ. The children had a wonderful time.
Cross Country
On Wednesday 1st November all the children in Key Stage 2 competed in the Cross Country race against pupils from 6 other local schools, at Carver Barracks. Everyone tried their best and Clavering school did very well, including 9 children who got a medal for 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their year group race. Our medallists were; Gold – Amber S (3), Seraphina H (5), Grace L (6), Silver – Alice E (3), Grace W (5), Georgie C (6),
Bronze – Ted B (3), Isabella B (6) and William C (6). A big well done to everyone who took part!
Magistrate visiting year 6
On Thursday afternoon, Mrs Terry, a magistrate, came to talk to Year 6. We learnt a great deal and asked lots of questions. She explained that she earns nothing for her work as a magistrate because this role is voluntary. In the courtroom, there are two ‘wingers’ and a chairman who work together as a team to decide whether the defendant is guilty or not and what the punishment should be. Some people are sent to prison (the maximum time they can award is 6 months) and others are given a suspended sentence and are issued with a tag to wear, which monitors where they are and when they can’t go out.

Football Match – Clavering v Elsenham
Clavering played Elsenham on Thursday afternoon. Elsenham had a very strong team and despite our best efforts, we unfortunately lost. We would like to thank Mr Chetcuti who stepped in to coach us during the match instead of Mr Snelling.

Footwear
In the interest of safety, as well as appearance, pupils should wear suitable footwear for school. Shoes should fasten securely and be plain black and low heeled with enclosed toes. Boots, sandals, sling backs and trainers are not appropriate for school. Trainers can be worn for PE.
