Headteacher Newsletter Issue 6
FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER ISSUE 6: 1.12.17
Welcome
We would like to welcome some new children and their families to the school: Luca Class 4, Claudia Class 3 and Jake Class 5.
Open Morning
Last week the school held a very successful Open Morning for prospective families. The pupils were a credit to us all, showcasing our school throughout the morning.
Year 6 spoke to a number of families in the hall, after the tours, and each class had ‘Meeters and Greeters’ where the children talked about their learning that was taking place during the morning.
We would like to thank Friends of Clavering – Amanda Crabb, Sonja Phipps and Katherine Elphick for the refreshments throughout the morning. Katherine, in addition to this, advertised the event for us. We would also like to thank Jocelyn Donoghue, Natasha Carter and Rosie Smith for their work clearing our allotments ready for the class work that is taking place and in time for our Open Morning.
We are very lucky to have such a supportive school community.
New governor
We would like to welcome Toby Pellew to the Governing Body, as a Parent Governor. He officially started his position last week. We look forward to working with him.
Years 5 and 6 visit the Mosque in Cambridge
On Wednesday 22nd November, Class 5 and 6 went to a mosque in Cambridge. To respect their religion, we had to take off our shoes and the female teachers had to wear headscarves to cover their heads. We learnt about their god, Allah, and about the five pillars. They are the rules that Muslims have to follow. We met the Iman who told us about his job and what they do at the mosque. Iman told us all about their traditional prayers that they must do 5 times a day. We had a tour of the mosque and we learnt about the early Islamic civilisation. At the end, they gave us a quiz, which we really enjoyed, as well as crisps and a drink.
We found the trip really interesting. We learnt a lot and would hope to go there again.
