This term, Reception class have been reading and responding to the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk.  We have immersed ourselves in the many different versions of the story and have loved comparing the similarities and differences. Our favourite found Jack catapulting the Giant from the beanstalk into space – never to be seen again!  We have grown our own beanstalks and kept bean diaries – the seedlings are just about ready to be planted out into our planter outside, we have acted out the story using hot seating, learned poems, explored a journey around the Giant’s castle and the Giant even wrote us a letter asking for help and we designed posters to suggest ways in which he could keep healthy.  We also used our mini-me’s to explore what it would be like to be very small exploring the castle using the book ‘Shhh!’

This week, we have written story plans and soon we will be publishing our own version of the story.
