Well done Clavering Primary School – Congratulations from the Local Authority
Clavering Congratulations Letter 2019
Meet the teacher and meeting with Mr Roberts, Principal from JFAN
Thank you to all the parents that attended the evening last week. We hope you found it informative. Thank you to the class Parent Forum representatives and class Governors that attended.
Year 6 Sports Ambassador Training
On Wednesday morning our new Y6 Sports Ambassadors, Harry, Ollie, Hermione and Jamie, went to JFAN for some training in their new role. They worked alongside children from our family primary schools to learn more about the role. They practised leadership skills and how to organise sporting events for children back at school, as well as taking part in a mini tournament. The new ambassadors plan to organise some intra school events and games tournaments over the course of the year, as well as assisting Mr Snelling at his lunch time clubs in the Spring and Summer terms. They will also be contributing to the newsletter and web site with sports reports and news.
School Council Representatives
Classes 1 to 6 have voted for their new School Councillors. We would like to welcome to School Council –
Y1 Tristan and Polly,
Y2 Morgan and Ellie,
Y3 Emma and George,
Y4 Alex and Olivia M,
Y5 Amber and George,
Y6 Jude and Kitty and Secretary Abigail.
We have already started our Christmas box appeal and KS2 councillors will be going to the School Council Conference on Thursday 3rd October.
Girls’ Football
Last Wednesday Years 3 and 4 girls and Years 5 and 6 girls enjoyed some additional ‘girls only’ football coaching run by the Uttlesford Sports Partnership at JFAN. The girls worked alongside girls from a number of other schools in small groups learning and practising skills. They then played a mini tournament in mixed teams. Several girls are now playing for teams in and outside of school and we are pleased to be able to offer further support and encouragement for girls to get into the sport.
Class Walk – Class 6
On Thursday last week the children in class 6 enjoyed their first ‘class walk’ of the year. We were fortunate to have the sunshine with us and it was a perfect day to enjoy and appreciate the countryside on our doorsteps. The children followed local maps with a 5 mile circular route along the footpaths, which has been established as the Year 5 and 6 walk for a number of years now. Map reading skills were encouraged and signs of Autumn identified along the way. We are now looking forward to the Spring and Summer walks to see how the landscape changes.
Scootfit
On Thursday 26th September Years 1 & 2 took part in Scootfit, an Uttlesford Schools Partnership initiative. The children brought in their scooters and spent the morning outside learning safe scooting, road safety, coordination and spatial awareness. The morning was a great success and the children had lots of fun.
MacMillan Coffee Morning
Thank you to all who supported our MacMillan coffee morning today. The event was extremely well attended and it was lovely to welcome parents and grandparents to enjoy the many cakes that had been donated. Well done to the children and their contributions baked in the food tech room this week. The Clavering Bake Off competition cakes were fantastic; congratulations to our star bakers, George (Y5), Agatha (Y6) and Florence (Y2). Parents and staff have all been very generous and we raised approximately £560.
FOC AGM
The Friends of Clavering Annual General Meeting took place last week to review the year and organise events for the next. The Friends raised around £9,000 for the school last year, which is an amazing achievement and an excellent source of funding for the school. Much of this went towards new computer screens for the classrooms and Wider Opportunities Music provision.
On behalf of the school I would like to thank the Friends of Clavering and the parents that have contributed to this amount. Without this extra funding, alongside the cuts that are being made to school funding, we would not be able to maintain the high standards of education in the form that we currently provide.
A special thank you to Rachel Betts who has been the Chair of Friends for many years and has recently stood down from this position. We are very grateful for the time and support she has given to the school over the years. We would like to welcome Andrea Vaughan who has officially taken over this role. We would also like to thank the other members that are standing down.
BBC OwnIt – digital wellbeing app
One for your parents newsletter – the BBC have launched a new app for children called Own It. The app monitors how young people interact with others online and uses artificial intelligence to evaluate the mood of the child so it can offer advice. For example if the child types ‘you’re really stupid’ the app will alert the sender and ask if they really want to send. It does a lot more and definitely worth a look. For more information see here:
