Sports Ambassador Training
Last week the sports ambassadors of Clavering School attended a virtual meeting with other ambassadors from across the county. We were discussing how to be the best role models we can and to demonstrate the best qualities a sports ambassador should have. Mrs Coleman set us tasks to complete throughout the term and gave us the responsibility to run activities for the younger year groups. We really enjoyed learning about our roles!

Harvest Assembly
The whole school celebrated Harvest in a special assembly on Tuesday. We sang two harvest songs and each class presented work linked to harvest including songs, art work, poems and reflections. There was also cooking shared using produce grown in our own school allotment. We have all the food donations on display for Uttlesford Food Bank. Please do keep sending donations in if you feel you can. Grace A. in Reception class even used the money she had earned from her chores to buy food to donate. Thank you Grace!!
Year 6 Football event
Some of Class 6 had the amazing opportunity to attend Herberts Farm on Wednesday 11th October for a football tournament. The boys attended the morning session and the girls the afternoon. The children had five matches which they thoroughly enjoyed taking part in, demonstrating team skills and supporting one another. Both the girls and the boys won a match and were gracious in defeat. Mr Snelling, Mrs Neal and Miss Morton are very proud of each and every one of them.
MacMillan Coffee Morning
Thank you to all the people who kindly donated to our amazing Macmillan Coffee morning. The year 6’s did a fantastic job of welcoming parents, collecting children and making speeches. A HUGE thank you to the Friends of Clavering for helping to organise this event and serving cake and teas & coffees. A special thank you to the office staff for helping behind the scenes and to Miss Morton who organised the event. We raised an amazing £450.60.
KS1 Teddy Bear Run with JFAN Sports Coach
Class 2 were lucky enough to take part in a Teddy Bear Fun Run organised by the Uttlesford School Sports Partnership. Each of us brought in a teddy and Miss Esterhuizen from JFAN arrived after lunch. She put some music on and started us off with some warm-up activities and stretches with our teddies. We then did some practice laps while our teddies watched and finally, we did some laps with our teddies! We finished off with some cool down exercises and stretches. We had a great time! | ![]() |
Application for leave of absence for term time holidays
Guidance from the Local Authority:
“Leave of absence may only be granted by a person authorised in that behalf by the proprietor of the school. As from 1st September 2013, the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 amended Regulation 7 to prohibit the proprietor of a maintained school from granting leave of absence to a pupil, except where an advance application has been made by the parent with whom the pupil normally resides, and the proprietor considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
Taking your child out of school during term time could be detrimental to your child’s educational progress. There is no entitlement to parents to take their child out of school during term time, however, you may apply to the school for leave of absence if you believe there are exceptional circumstances.
If the absence is not authorised and the holiday is taken, the case will be referred to the Education Welfare Service who may issue a Penalty Notice for £120 (or £60 if paid within 21 days) to each parent for each child taken out of school.”
Please note occasional days for birthdays and treats cannot be authorised and cheaper prices cannot be considered to be a valid reason. No leave of absence will be granted during our assessment weeks or the first week of the Autumn term. Medical appointments, if at all possible should be made outside school hours. Siblings of children attending medical appointments should remain in school.
