Headteacher Newsletter Issue 11
FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER ISSUE 11: 28.3.24
Even though it has been a very short half term, we have achieved a great deal and the children have experienced many things. We wish you all a very happy Easter break and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 16th April. Please note Monday 15th April is a non-pupil day for staff training.
Governor Focus morning
Last week we had a Governor Focus morning, which was very informative. The governors came into school for the morning and spent time in the classrooms, meeting with some of the children and subject leaders. The children shared their learning with the governors and were a credit to the school.
A Note from the Governors’
Clavering school has really started 2024 with a bang, with events like the ever popular Neon Disco & Clavering choir’s recent trip to “Three Circles recording studio” in Wimbish. Thank you to Mrs Thomas and Mrs Abrahams for making this possible. Trips to Stansted Airport for Reception class, where they were complimented on how well behaved and how keen to learn they were. Well done to Reception. They have also attended Forest school for several weeks and been able to see the seasons change .
It was also fantastic to hear this week that the school have been selected by Tesco for their “Stronger Starts Funding Scheme”, where if we receive the most blue tokens, the school will receive an amazing £1500 to put towards new laptops, Thanks must go out to the Friends of Clavering team.
As a governing body we once again had the opportunity to come into the school for a Governor Focus Morning, We spent time with the children and the staff, sitting in on Maths and English lessons, I’m sure I speak for us all when I say it was a joy, The pupils were keen to interact with us and displayed real confidence in answering questions and worked together in an inclusive and positive manner. We then met with students in a smaller group and Subject Leaders.
Thank you to Ms Allsop, all of the teachers and staff and of course the students for making us feel so welcome.
We are excited to see what the rest of the academic year has to bring.
We would like to wish you all a very happy Easter and also like to wish those students taking their SATs next term every success.

E-safety
Last week we all had e-safety training with the Two Johns. Years 1 – 6 during the day, staff after school and parents in the evening. The link to the parent session has been shared and is available for the next 3 weeks. It is very important that ALL families hear these e-safety messages so that we can all work together to keep our children safe. If you cannot locate this parent mail, then please contact the school office.
Daws Hall
We had a fantastic time at Daws Hall Nature Reserve! We did some orienteering to start the day then we moved onto river sampling looking at water quality, flow rate and so on. We observed meanders, erosion and deposition. After lunch, we did some kick sampling to see which creatures were living in the brook and we also found some slow worms hiding under some undergrowth. A very busy day, some excellent teamwork and investigation skills.

Friends of Clavering Easter Egg Hunt
The children had a great time this morning enjoying an easter egg hunt. Thank you so much to the Friends of Clavering for organising and running this event.
Heads of School
The Heads of School launched the ‘Buddy Bench’ in assembly this week, which will start after Easter. They explained what it was and how it can be used to the children through role play. This will support children at playtimes if they need a friend or ideas of what they can play. The Heads of School and Lead Playleaders were a credit to the school. The assembly was very well received.
Application for leave of absence for term time holidays
Guidance from the Local Authority:
“Leave of absence may only be granted by a person authorised in that behalf by the proprietor of the school. As from 1st September 2013, the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 amended Regulation 7 to prohibit the proprietor of a maintained school from granting leave of absence to a pupil, except where an advance application has been made by the parent with whom the pupil normally resides, and the proprietor considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
Taking your child out of school during term time could be detrimental to your child’s educational progress. There is no entitlement to parents to take their child out of school during term time, however, you may apply to the school for leave of absence if you believe there are exceptional circumstances.
If the absence is not authorised and the holiday is taken, the case will be referred to the Education Welfare Service who may issue a Penalty Notice for £120 (or £60 if paid within 21 days) to each parent for each child taken out of school.”
Please note occasional days for birthdays and treats cannot be authorised and cheaper prices cannot be considered to be a valid reason. No leave of absence will be granted during our assessment weeks or the first week of the Autumn term. Medical appointments, if at all possible, should be made outside school hours. Siblings of children attending medical appointments should remain in school.
