Piano Concert
On Tuesday 21st May, just before half term, Laura Thomas and her piano students performed a fantastic concert for their parents. The resilience and talent were a pleasure to see. We were all very proud of them. Thank you to Mrs Thomas for organising the event, the pupils for taking part and to the parents for attending.
Rapid Fire Cricket
Just before half term some children from Years 3 and 4 attended the rapid fire cricket tournament at JFAN. All children were split into teams. Each team played 2/3 matches against other local schools. Clavering demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship and we are extremely proud that all 3 teams won their groups, and two teams secured a place in the next round!
Year 6 Magistrate visit
Just before the end of last term, Class 6 had a visit from a local Magistrate, Elaine. She taught the class about different types of courts, crimes and rehabilitation and punishments. The children offered very sensible questions and responses when probed. The children were surprised that a criminal record can prevent you from getting jobs, attending university and travelling to different countries. Some children did not realise they were criminally responsible from the age of ten. This was a fantastic and insightful talk.
Forest School – Reception and Year 6
At the end of their SATs week, the Year 6 class joined Reception in Snail Wood for a combined session as a surprise! The Spinning Spiders (Reception) were in their quiet spot listening and looking which is one of our regular activities! In the distance they could hear laughing and chatting and the noise became louder and louder. It was a wonderful surprise to see the buddies at the entrance to the wood!
The children all had a great time playing and exploring together. They played with ropes and made a variety of swings, we had the borrow box and there was much sticky weed collecting!!!
Thank you for joining us, Year 6. What a lovely morning.
Sports Day
The children were a credit to the school yesterday taking part in our Sports Day. During the morning there were field events for the whole school, Reception and KS1 before break and KS2 afterwards. During the afternoon the parents joined us for the track events. Points were achieved for the Houses throughout the day. Saville was the winning house with the most points. Well done to Saville. Points awarded as follows:
1st Saville | 2nd Wales | 3rd Oliver | 4th Ludgate | 5th Wymarc |
5337 | 5099 | 4567 | 4152 | 3882 |
The children showed great sportsmanship and supported each other throughout. A big thank you to Mr Snelling and Mrs Tokeley for organising the event, the Friends of Clavering for the refreshments and Secondhand Uniform sale and to Mr Abrahams for helping the staff set up the gazebos before school.
Application for leave of absence for term time holidays
Guidance from the Local Authority:
“Leave of absence may only be granted by a person authorised in that behalf by the proprietor of the school. As from 1st September 2013, the Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 amended Regulation 7 to prohibit the proprietor of a maintained school from granting leave of absence to a pupil, except where an advance application has been made by the parent with whom the pupil normally resides, and the proprietor considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
Taking your child out of school during term time could be detrimental to your child’s educational progress. There is no entitlement to parents to take their child out of school during term time, however, you may apply to the school for leave of absence if you believe there are exceptional circumstances.
If the absence is not authorised and the holiday is taken, the case will be referred to the Education Welfare Service who may issue a Penalty Notice for £120 (or £60 if paid within 21 days) to each parent for each child taken out of school.”
Please note occasional days for birthdays and treats cannot be authorised and cheaper prices cannot be considered as a valid reason. No leave of absence will be granted during our assessment weeks or the first week of the Autumn term. Medical appointments, if at all possible, should be made outside school hours. Siblings of children attending medical appointments should remain in school.
