Forest School -Year 3
Year 3 had a fabulous time at forest school last Friday. We enjoyed our walk to the woods, walking sensibly and safely all the way. At the forest, we had lots of fun building dens and swings, climbing trees and resting in Mrs Elliston’s hammock. We are all looking forward to next week!
Dance Festival – Year 3
Year 3 did themselves proud on Tuesday evening at Saffron Hall. They performed their dance routine to ‘Frozen Heart’ with such enthusiasm. For many of the children, this was their first time performing to a large audience and despite the nerves beforehand, they went up on that stage and gave it their all. Well done Year 3, we are all very proud of you! Thank you to all the families who came to support.
Comic Relief – Friday 21st March
As we are sure you are aware – it is Red Nose Day today!
Comic relief supports incredible projects and organisations that are making a difference for people across the UK and around the world.
This year the school council decided that we should ‘Go Red’ – that meant they could wear anything that was red. This could be a whole outfit or just a pair of socks. It was up to the individual to decide.
If preferred, the children could even wear their school uniform with a hint of red or wear non-uniform which incorporates red.
As always, there were some very imaginative ideas.
A big thank you for all the donations to comic relief.

School Disco
The children had a great time at the school disco this week. Thank you to the Friends of Clavering for organising this event
Healthy Snacks – break time AND BEFORE CLUBS
We would like to encourage all children to bring in a snack for break time and before clubs. It is a long time between breakfast and lunch, as well as between lunch and dinner, especially if attending a club after school, and a snack, as well as a drink of water, make a big difference to children’s concentration levels and ability to learn.
As a healthy school we have agreed strict guidelines for the type of snack brought in, it must be fruit or vegetable in the form in which it grew (ie. nothing added, not stretchy or made into a bar and wrapped). This also helps to promote our eco school policies of reducing waste and packaging. Please do not put the fruit snack in glass containers.
We would also like to take this opportunity to encourage a healthy balanced lunch box for those not taking a school lunch. Please remember we are a NO nuts school.
Bad weather
In the event of severe weather conditions and possible school closure a notice will be placed on the school website.
Parents will be notified via our school website or the Essex County Council on the ‘Emergency School Closures’ page: https://www.essex.gov.uk/education-schools/schools/dates/pages/emergency-school-closures.aspx
Please note that when the school is open in bad weather a path will be cleared to enable you to gain access to the school, but care does still need to be taken.
Communication Chain
Just as a reminder, in order for the communication chain to be effective, it is important that phone calls are made as opposed to emails or texts, in order to ensure contact is made. Normally the chain will be activated the morning of the school closure as the decision is made on the day, unless in exceptional circumstances we know of the need in advance. We will try to open where possible, hence the decision being made at the last minute once we can assess the school site. We will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible, but as you are aware, it takes some time for the communication to pass through.
Facebook can be used as a supplementary means of communication if requested to do so by a member of the leadership team but this is not part of the school process. ParentMail, the Communication Chain, the school website and the Essex link above are the school notifications.
Thank you again for your support with this process.
Lateness
School starts at 8.50 a.m. We have noticed several children are consistently arriving late for school – ‘late’ is defined by not being within the school gates by 8.50 a.m. Please make every effort to be at school on time and if you know that your journey will be disrupted by road works, do allow time for this.
Please note that lateness is recorded on a per pupil basis and could add up to an ‘unauthorised’ absence.
Thank you.
