Headteacher Newsletter Issue 16
FORTNIGHTLY NEWSLETTER ISSUE 16: 22.5.26
This half term has flown by. The children and staff have worked very hard with many activities and opportunities taking place. We had a great Friends of Clavering ‘Break the Rules’ day today alongside our field events. We will return after half term on Tuesday 2nd June as the Monday is a staff training day. Please note that Tuesday 2nd is our Sports Day morning, which we hope you are able to attend, following the field events that took place today. It is at 9.30 until about midday. After half term we will be having two fundraising talent shows, organised by the Heads of School from an idea given by George S in class 3. The children who are keen to take part sharing their talent will be practicing between now and the event. More details will follow.
Congratulations
Congratulation to Miss Ullmann who gave birth to a baby boy on Monday.
Staffing
Sadly Angela Davies, one of our Kitchen Assistants, will be leaving us today. She has supported the kitchen team for many years, and we are very appreciative of her support and hard work. Marcela Rimoli will be taking over this role after half term. We are looking forward to working with her. She is also one of our Cloverleaf staff.
Year 5 trip to Daws Hall
On Monday 18th May, Class 5 went on an awesome school trip to Daws Hall! Firstly, we did some orienteering where we ran around the forest following a map to find trees. After that, we tested the river Stour for pollution. We then tested the Losh House Brook and compared the two. Finally, we got in the brook and carried out the kick test. We kicked the river bed to get the wildlife to the surface, scooped them out with a net and put them in a sample tray. We observed and tallied the species we found. The main animals we found were cased caddis larvae, leeches and even fish!

Year 4 Forest School picnic
| Year 4 spent a wonderful morning at Forest School this week, beginning with the walk there and encountering the very inquisitive horses! The class really enjoyed building dens, using ropes to make swings, enjoyed relaxing in the hammock and climbed trees. We were lucky enough to have a fire during the session and then enjoyed a picnic lunch together. This was their final Forest School visit of the year, and we look forward to seeing how the forest changes when we return next time. | ![]() |
Years 5 and 6 Cricket
We all arrived at Saffron Walden Cricket Club and waited for the other teams. There were only 2 other teams. Straight away we played our first game and won (96-71). Then Elsenham played Great Chesterford. Elsenham lost. Finally, Elsenham beat us in the last game of the day. Everybody won one game, so it came down to runs. We won and got through with Elsenham.
Torben, Class 5
Year 6 trip to the Museum of Zoology, Cambridge
Year 6 had a fantastic visit to the Museum of Zoology on Thursday to support our Science topic, Evolution and inheritance. The children got to learn about the fin whale that hangs in the entrance (an impressive 21 metres long!), explore all the exhibits, learning about Charles Darwin’s, seeing some of his collections and handle skulls. The children found out about ‘survival of the fittest’ and natural selection. This was an amazing learning experience. A huge thank you to Mrs South & Mr Peters for coming along to support our educational visit.
Years 3 and 4 Cricket
Yesterday, a collection of children from classes 3 and 4 went to JFAN to take part in a Rapid Fire Cricket tournament.
We had three teams who all played fantastically with team C placing 2nd in their group, team B winning their group and team A also winning their group and progressing to the final. Team A then won their final match and will therefore progress to the next level of competition! The children showed both strong batting and fielding ability and great sportsmanship and coped well with the unexpected sunshine!
KS2 SATS
Well done to the year 6 team for all their efforts and hard work around the SATs tests last week. Their attitude and ownership of their learning was excellent. We were very proud of them all
Forest School years Reception and Year 6
It was lovely to have Year 6 join the Running Rabbits again at Forest School last week. What a lovely surprise for reception class when they sat down in the log circle to see their friends in the distance. They had a great time supporting each other with the different activities – swinging in the hammock, music, hammer zooming and lots and lots of fun.
Thank you Class 6 for joining us.
Inclusion/SEN Coffee Morning 30.6.26
There will an inclusion coffee morning on Tuesday 30th June at 9am. Please attend if you would like to discuss inclusion with SEN staff including our SEN governor and Mental Health specialist. This will also be an opportunity to meet with other parents.
Cloverleaf Wraparound Club
We are thrilled to announce two fantastic additions to our Cloverleaf Wraparound after school. Allotments and Forest School every Monday and Wednesday. These sessions give children the chance to explore, grow, build and discover in the great outdoors. In the morning, the club offers a variety of breakfast choices, served between 7.30 and 8.00am, followed by quiet activities until 8.40am when the children are taken to their classes. Please contact the school office if you would like to secure a place at Cloverleaf.
Parking on Vassars Field – communication from the management company
The residents of Vassars Field have been trialling traffic cones in the areas where parents have been incorrectly parking over the last couple of days. Unfortunately, this has not had the desired solution with cars just being parked in other private road areas or in some instances, parents just moving the cones to park. We are requesting parents only park in the designated spaces. The residents are trying all options to avoid instructing a parking enforcement company

Drop off times and key messages for class teachers
If you would like a message to be given to your child’s class teacher, before school, then please catch the person on duty by the gate leading on to the playground. It is usually me. These messages will be given to the class teacher before school.
Class teachers cannot meet with parents during this time as they are with the children in their classrooms. Appointments or telephone calls can be made upon request at a mutually convenient time.
Thank you for your support with this.
School Absences – sickness and holidays
Following Local Authority guidance, we will be contacting families on a daily basis, even if we have been told there is sickness. Following the same guidance, if it is believed that the family are actually on holiday and not sick then this will need to be actioned as an unauthorised absence. Fines may follow.
